Covid-19 Update 19 Aug

Te Hopai: Covid-19 (Coronavirus) updated guidelines and advice #21

We just want to touch base with you all ahead of the Covid updates expected on Friday. We (as you) are hopeful that restrictions will be lifted, and we can all get back to our ‘new normal’. However, we wanted you all to be aware that we will not be making any changes to our lockdown before Monday, regardless of any updates we receive. We will remain closed over the weekend, except to those who have specific permission to visit (for compassionate reasons) and will communicate with you again on Monday when we have had the opportunity to re-assess our situation and respond to any changes given any change to our advice and depending what is happening throughout the country.

If you believe that you need to be allowed to visit, please contact Jill Kerridge, our Clinical Manager on to discuss your particular circumstances. Please note that we will only be allowing family members to visit (no friends). If you are permitted to visit, these will be scheduled. If you have been in Auckland within the last 14 days, please do not visit at this time and if you have any concerns about your health, please remember to call the Healthline on 0800 611 116.

If you are wanting to Skype your loved ones then you need to email with your Skype name and email address and request a time slot for our staff to assist with this process. This will be available between 10 and 4 daily. If you wish to use other mediums (FaceTime, WhatsApp) this will only be possible if the resident has their own device to use. If you would like to write a letter to your family member, we will be happy to help. Post will still be delivered, or you can email your letter to us at and we will print and give it to them. If necessary, we will read any correspondence to your family member. We are also still allowing items to be dropped off at either reception for residents.

Our new visitor sign in/out system is now up and running. It is quite a simple process but if you are having trouble, please ask our staff for assistance. The system generates ID stickers; we request that you wear them when you are in the facility. You can also use the sticker for a quick sign out (it uses the iPad camera to identify you). Once you have signed in for the first time, you can request the system to ‘remember’ you which makes it quicker the next time you visit. Thank you to those who contributed to our fundraiser for the donations that have allowed us to invest in this. We are still working towards our goal of thermal scanning. Our raffle items are looking excellent, and we will be waiting for visitors to return before we launch this.

We will continue to update you as the situation evolves. We know that the continuing restrictions will be hard to understand in the face of the current situation but we remind you that it only takes one person to bring this virus into the facility and the effect will be enormous. We ask that you continue to help us to keep our residents/your loved ones as safe as we can.
